Battle with broad of Jaffna

naval Battle delivered the May 11th 2006, with broad of Jaffna close to the village of Vettilaikerni, in the Indian Ocean, between the marine of the Sri Lanka and the freedom fighters Tamoul S. This battle most severe is delivered between the government of Colombo and the combatants of LTTE (Release Tigers off Tamilian Ealam) since 2002. The facts are contradictory and conjectural; however, it seems that a governmental ship, the Pearl Cruise II , transporting 710 troops, escorted by several high-speed motorboat S and travelling of Trincomalee in Jaffna, in the North-East of Sri Lanka, was attacked with broad of Jaffna by about fifteen fast ships tamouls and among which there were boat-suicides.

The high-speed motorboats immediately started the combat to protect transport and in the confrontation which followed, one of them (Dvora class of Israeli manufacture) was run by a boat-suicide. The continuation of the combat would have turned to the defeat of the tamouls since according to the government, three ships would have been destroyed and the remainder put in escape. The authorities tamoules as for them dispute the aggression against the Pearl Cruise II and support that their ships carried out operations with broad of Jaffna, when the navy sri lankaise attacked them. They do not deny the destruction of the governmental high-speed motorboat, but do not admit the defeat of their squadron.

Always it is that 17 sailors sri lankais died during this engagement, which does not appear not disputed. On the other hand, Colombo claims that about fifty Tamouls would have been killed, whereas Tamouls affirm to have had four died.

Following this battle, aviation sri lankaise launched raids of reprisals against Tamouls. The latter affirm that civil aims would have been deliberately had, which deny without surprised their enemies.
