Battle of the course Mycale
the battle of the course Mycale is one of last confrontations between united and Persian Greeks of the second medic war. It take place in 479 and holds its name of the course with broad from which the confrontation began, and which is opposite the island of Samos.
Involved forces
It is mainly by Hérodote ( Histoire, IX, 99 - 106 ) that this battle is known for us. As for the medic Wars in general, she opposes to a Greek quota made up men of various united cities, such as Athens, Sparte, Trézène or Sicyone, with divisions of the Persian army, supported by Samiens of the island of Samos and Milésiens, the inhabitants of Milet. The Panhellénique league dissolves but Persians are beaten. A new league appears, the Ligue of Délos.
