Battle of the course Finisterre (1509)
naval Battle delivered the January 18th 1509, in the Gulf of Biscay, off the coasts of the Galicia. A Portuguese Squadron ordered by Duarte Pacheco Pereira, navigator and cosmographer, called Achilles Lusitanian, faced and destroyed the fleet of the Corsaire French Pierre de Mondragon, composed of 4 ships. One of them was run, the three others captured. Pierre de Mondragon, who had illustrated himself by foaming the Canal of Mozambique and the African coasts, with the detriment of the Spanish or Portuguese boats, perishes in the confrontation.
