Battle of the Standard

The battles of the Standard ( Battle off the Standard in English), was held the August 22nd 1138 close to Northallerton in the Yorkshire. She opposed the army of David I {{er}} of Scotland to those of the king Etienne of England ordered by the Thurstan archbishop of York and Walter Espec, lord of the castle of Helmsley.

Robert de Bruce, 1st Lord d' Annadale, one of the leaders of the English army, Norman near to the Scottish king, was sent to persuade it to withdraw itself without fighting against its old allies. It failed to convince it, and had to break its wish of fidelity to the Scottish king.

The battle is concluded by a defeat from the Écossais which put an end to their will of conquest of the county of Northumbrie, and leads to the treated of Durham in 1139 which pacified the anglo-Scottish border.

The name of this battle comes from the banners of Saint-Pierre of York, Midsummer's Day de Beverley and Saint-Wilfrid of Ripon which the English during this one raised.
