Battle of Wigan Lane
The battles of Wigan Lane took place the August 25th 1651 at the time of the Third civil war English, between the royalists, ordered by the count of Derby, and the elements of the New Model Army, ordered by the colonel Robert Lilburne. The royalists were demolished, losing about half of their officers and their men.
The count of Derby had recruited 10 men of each parish of the island of Man, that is to say 170 men in all. James Stanley was then Seigneur of Man.
