Battle of Towton

The battles of Towton is bloodiest and largest of the battles which proceeded at the time of the Guerre of the Two-Pinks. It took place with approximately 16 kilometers in the western south of York.

It was held the March 29th 1461. In spite of the victory of the Second battle of Saint-Albans of the February 17th, the troops of the Maison of Lancaster could not seize London and decided to beat a retreat before the arrival of the troops of Edouard IV and Richard Neville.

The troops of the Maison of York continued them and the battle lasted more than 10 hours. The arrival of the fresh troops of John Mowbray (York) broke moral Lancaster which fled.

Although the estimates vary much, the number of the participants make this battle, largest of the battles of the War of the Two-Pinks.
