Battle of Solferino

The battles of Solférino took place the June 24th 1859 during the countryside of Italy. It was held in Lombardy, in the Province of Mantoue. It is about a victory of the French Army of Napoleon III allied with the Sardinian army over the Austrian army of the emperor François-Joseph. The conflict between the Austrian empire and the coalition free-Sardinian was born from the promise made by Napoleon III with the king Victor-Emmanuel II help it to make around him the unit of Italy in exchange of Savoy and Nice. More than 200.000 soldiers fought in this battle, which constitutes the greatest number since the Bataille of Leipzig of 1813. There were approximately 100.000 Austrian soldiers and a combined total of 118.600 French and Sardinians.
The lack of care taken to wounded each camp was the release of the creation of the Croix-Rouge by Switzerland Henri Dunant: the book which he will write on his return will move the Genevese good company and the European leaders by the time.
