Battle of Sarikamis

The December 29th, 1914 , the Russian commander, the general Vorontsov, blocks the Turkish projection on Kars, in the the Caucasus, with the battle of Sarikamis, but the engagements continue. No belligerent manages to carry it. The battle of Sarikamis, started fine December 1914 , continues. Some 100.000 Russian soldiers try to contain the Turkish projection towards the town of Kars. The Turkish attack is badly conducted by Enver Pasha, whose 95.000 soldiers suffer from the intense cold. A sudden Russian counter-attack forces the Turks to fold up themselves on Erzeroum. Approximately 30.000 Turks are killed during the battle and only some 19.000 soldiers, who had fled in Erzeroum, are still suited to the combat. Enver Pasha gives up his command. The general Vorontsov, Russian commander, not very inclined to continue the Turks, is replaced by the general Nikolaï Nikolaïevitch Ioudénitch.
