The battles of Saint-Gothard took place the 1664, close to the village of Saint-Gothard (Szentgotthárd) in Hungary, on both sides of the river of Raab.
She opposed the armies of the Empire and the France (Christian) to the Othoman armies (Moslem).
The army of the Empire was ordered by Montecuccoli. The French Army (6000 men) was ordered by the count Jean de Coligny-Saligny (1617-1686), that the king had named with the full powerss. Vis-a-vis the Turkish projection, the imperial army started to lose foot. It was the army ordered by Coligny which restores the situation and undertook the counter-attack. This one succeeds, the Turks were put in rout, part of their army drowned in Raab: thanks to the directed French of hand of Master by Coligny, the defeat was entreated and the assured victory.
This victory stopped Net the Turkish projection and saved the Empire of a disaster: Vienna, indeed, was not very far, and if the Turks had been able to cross Raab, they would have reached Vienna without resistance and subjected Austria.

The Turk who had bored the rows for removing to him fell itself bored from blows on the place." Handwritten of the marquis de Quincey , to see also Gazette of France of September 5th, 1664.
