Battle of Morat
The battles of Morat is a victory of the Suisse S, combined Louis XI, over Charles Bold the, the June 22nd 1476.
After the defeat with the Battle of Grandson, where the troops of the duke of Burgundy, Charles Bold the, taken of panic flee of the battle field, causing the loss of the totality of his artillery, Charles is taken of a desire of revenge and it does not give up wanting to make fold the Swiss ones.
It reconstitutes its army then, rejoins its troops and receives reinforcements of Mercenaire S of Italy with principal rafters, but also of the English archers, Flemish piquiers. It is in the surroundings of Lausanne that this one reorganizes its troops and tries by the drive to give a little cohesion to its heterogeneous army.
Towards the end of May, it is a strong Burgundian army from 15 to 30 ' 000 men according to the sources which moves towards Bern. After several days of walk, it arrives at the foot of the town of Morat ( German Murten in ). The city is defended by a garrison of Bernese and Freibourgese from approximately 1 ' 500 men, ordered by Adrian von Bubenberg.
The duke of Burgundy lays out his troops around the city then in order to put the seat at it. He places the large one of his army in the plain, and makes assemble palisades (Grünhag) reinforced of his artillery on the axes leading to the city if an army of help would emerge, and thus cover the troops which carry out the seat. Contrary to what occurred to Grandson where they did not play any part, the guns of the duke Charles mow hundreds of men but they are not protected by the troops of elite from Jacques from Savoy, count of Romont too distant. By a despaired push, Hans de Halwyl and its pedestrians penetrate in the camp of the duke Charles and reduce to silence the frightening guns.
Panic, again, is put in the rows of the Burgundian ones: the Swiss ones encircle them on three sides, fourth is occupied by the Lac of Morat. Innumerable are the runaways which drown there and the Swiss ones do not make a district.
