Battle of Millesimo
The battles of Millesimo takes place, close to the town of Millesimole, the April 13rd 1796. It is a victory of the general Augereau over the Sardinians of the general Provera.
Countryside preceding the battle
The countryside of Italy started with a French victory with battles of Montenotte. The army of the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia (one thus calls indifferently their troops the PiƩmontais or the Sardes ), moves back through the mountains to protect the access to the Piedmont.
Course of the battle
According to the practice of Bonaparte, the French troops concentrate quickly: the Augereau general is joined by the brigade Joubert. They turn the positions of the marquis de Provera while passing by ravines, and force the passage to Millesimo. Most of the Piedmontese forces are not committed.
Continuations
The Piedmontese army is definitively cut Austrian army, beaten the following day with battles of Dego.
Provera is locked up with Cosseria, a fortress built on a headland with 1600 men who remain to him.
This fortress, after a first fatal and unfruitful attack (nearly 1000 men of Augereau division out of combat), offers its rendering on April 14th, not having received a help of the Piedmontese general-in-chief, Colli.
