Battle of Mauron
In 1352, theBreton ones gain a victory with Mauron against the forces of the knight Geoffroy de Charny.
It was in 1352, the year which followed that of the Combat of the Thirty, and during the captivity of Charles of Blois. The castle of Mauron, which one so valiantly disputed with the XIVe century, still existed with the XVIIIe century.
It is necessary to mention that on August 14th, 1352, six hundred Free-Breton (supporting the king of France Jean, guard of Charles of Blois), under the control of the marshal of Offemont are opposed to the anglo-Breton troop (supporting the party of Montfort) ordered by Gaultier de Genteley (or Venteley or Benteley), assisted by Tanguy of Chastel, Garnier de Cadoudal and Yves de Trésiguidy. The place where the battle of Mauron was delivered seems to be close to the village of the Wood-of-the-Rock. The party of the king who lost the battle on August 14th, 1352, left on the ground of the combat, several corpses of which that of the marshal of Offemont, the count of Walk, the lords of Bricquebec, of Beauvais, of Alain VII (11th Viscount of Rohan), of Tinténiac and a considerable number knights (nearly 140).
