Battle of Markham Gartok

The Bataille of Markham Gartok is delivered the October 6th 1950, during the invasion of the Tibet by the China.

At the beginning of October, the popular Armée with Chinese release receives the order to penetrate in Tibet. The Chinese troops, ordered by the Wang general pass to the attack and invade the Kham, province Eastern of Tibet, going on Chamdo, the principal city. The Tibetans resist as they can it, but without much success.

Markham Gartok, which counts a garrison of 250 men, made up to some extent of soldiers of Lhassa and recruits khambas is attacked by an army of a thousand of men. The Tibetans hold their positions, but threatened to be submerged, their commander orders the retirement. To this advertisement, the warriors khambas turn their weapons towards their compatriots, demanding whom they continue the fight. Lhasséens thus take again the combat; that has as only a result to delay the inescapable one and to weigh down the assessment of the battle.

Also beaten with Rangsum and Riwoché, the Tibetans cannot contain the inexorable Chinese advance and Chamdo falls a few days later, without combat.
