Battle of Méribel
The battles of Méribel the September 13rd 1793, in the small village of Méribel, above Sallanches in Haute-Savoie. The forces of the Duché of Savoy are beaten by the French Army .
In 1792, the forces of the French Republic had occupied the duchy of Savoy “to release” the Savoyard people. A decree of annexation is signed the November 27th, and Savoy becomes the department of Mont Blanc
After the execution of Louis XVI (January 21st, 1793), the Revolution is depreciated and Europe unites itself against it. The Levy in masse (300 000 men) answers him, but only some Savoyard engages. They are more numerous in the rows of the royalist forces which attack the French Army and take again the alpine valleys.
The confrontation with the Armée with the Alps turns however in favor of the republican forces.
