Battle of Luçon

The Bataille of Luçon is a combat of the Guerre of the Vendée, during the French revolution, opposing the republican forces of the Tuncq General and the royalist forces of Gigost d' Elbée the August 14th 1793. The combat takes place close to the town of Luçon, in the Vendée, where the royalists are demolished by the republican troops.

After their reverse in front of Nantes, the Vendean ones attack Luçon, capital of the Diocèse and important center of provisioning for the republicans. A first attempt, carried out by Elbée, fails. The Vendean chiefs then decide to call upon Cart. In answer, this last gathers the August 10th 1793 3 to 4.000 of its men, to which come to be added other volunteers during walk towards the point of rallying of the Vendean armies, with Holy-Hermine.

The August 14th, the republicans, inferiors of number, but better armed and aguerris, inflict a new defeat with the insurrectionists. Cart brings back 1.500 survivors to Legé.
