Battle of Latakia
the battle of Latakia was held the October 7th 1973, during the Guerre of Kippour, and opposed the naval forces of the State of Israel and the Syria.
It is a question of the first naval battle of the history to have seen engagements between ships equipped with sea-to-sea missiles and the use of electronic countermeasures. To the beginning of the hostilities, the Israeli navy endeavoured to destroy the Syrian naval capacities, which were equipped with modern missiles Soviet.
The battle proceeded with broad of the Syrian port of Latakia. The Israelis let the enemy fire his missiles to the maximum of their range, and employed countermeasures of jamming radar to delude them. Once the Syrians had fired their missiles, the Israelis drew theirs with the maximum range.
Several Syrian warships were run, and the Syrian navy remained in the ports and did not fight any more until the end of the conflict.
