Battle of Kapyong
The battles of Kapyong is an episode of the Guerre of Korea which was held 22 with the April 25th 1951, in the Comté of Gapyeong.
The goal of the Chinese forces was to take again Seoul.
The 118e voluntary division of the Chinese people, in numerical superiority, loses the ground against the American , the Canadian and the Australia NS.
In the night from April 22nd to 23rd 1951, the Chinese forces tackle the positions of the 6th Division of the Republic of Korea which is threatened to be crossed remainder of the troops and to be destroyed.
The Valley of Kapyong, occupied by the 27e Brigade of the Commonwealth which was then in reserve, is an ideal road of escape for the South-Koreans. The Pukhan river crosses the center of the valley, whose width reaches some three kilometers.
The 2nd Canadian battalion of Princess Patricia' S Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) settles with the dimension #677 and the 1st British Regiment of Middlesex clings to the south of Patricias, while the 3rd battalion of Royal Australian Regiment occupies the dimension #504.
The Australian ones are the first with being attacked during all the night from April 23rd to 24th. The day, the Australian ones are forced to withdraw itself. Their withdrawal exposes Patricias to the direct attacks.
The general battle begins. The Canadians push back the attack by the heavy shooting of machine-guns and mortars.
Then, the Canadians are overflowed and the commander calls an artillery shooting on his own positions.
The Canadians could maintain their positions, vital with the defense of all the brigade. The enemy suffered from heavy losses and its offensive was stopped.
This day, the 2nd battalion of Princess Patricia' S Canadian Light Infantry gained one of the first ranks among all the units of UNO in Korea by its bravery and heroism.
