Battle of Ichi-No-Tani
The battles of Ichi-No-Tani (ja 一ノ谷の戦い) is a battle of the Guerre of Gempei.

Ichi-No-Tani (ja 一の谷, Ichi-No-Tani ) was a fortress of the Taira located at the west of the current town of Kōbe, located on a very narrow tape of shore, between the mountains with north and the sea in the south. This position made it rather well justifiable, but returned in same difficult time the operations of troops inside the enclosure. Minamoto No Yoshitsune had divided its forces into three. The men of Minamoto No Noriyori had attacked to them Taira from the Ikuta-jinja, a sanctuary Shintō located in wood at some distance to the east. During this time, most of the army attacked by the west along the coast. A last detachment led by Yoshitsune itself, not including/understanding less than one hundred riders, climbed the mountain, and attacked the fortress by the back, relatively little defended. At the appointed time, the three groups launched the attack, putting fire at the fortress. Many the Taira warriors joined their boats and made veil for Yashima (today Takamatsu), but Taira No Tadanori was killed and captured Shigehira.

The battle of Ichi-No-Tani is one of the most famous battles of the Guerre of Gempei, this being largely due to the individual combat which took place there. Benkei, probably most famous of all the Sōhei (monk-warriors), fought at the sides of Minamoto, and much of the most important Taira warriors and most powerful were present also. The death of the young person Will conceal No Atsumori, sixteen years old, hands of Naozane Kumagai, which had lost a son of this age, is a very famous passage of the Heike Monogatari . This event was dramatized in the theater nō and the Kabuki. The death of Atsumori is probably one of the singular combat most famous of all the Histoire of Japan.This battle is also the last recorded authority of Japanese seat where crossbows were used.
