Battle of Huamantla

The Bataille of Huamantla is held the October 9th 1847 during the américano-Mexican Guerre, with Huamantla between the Mexican troops directed by the General Santa Anna and those of the General Joseph Lane sent to reinforce the troops American of Puebla besieged by the Mexicans. The Victoire of the American troops at the time of this battle allowed to raise the head office of Puebla.

Context

The very same day or Mexico City falls between the hands from the troops from the General Winfield Scott (September 14th), of the Mexican forces start the head office of Puebla. Less than one month later, a force of reinforcement sent of then Veracruz walk on Puebla under the command of the Major-general Joseph Lane. However that the troops of Santa Anna come to their meeting.

The battle

The October 8th Lanes sends scouts who discover that the forces of Santa Anna await the reinforcements American with Huamantla, with 40 kilometers of Puebla. The October 9th, the Texas Ranger S of the avant-garde of Lane ordered by the Capitaine Samuel Walker reach the city and counts approximately: 2000 Mexican lancers. Lane, shocked to learn death from Walker releases the support of his troops which plunder and burn Huamantla, it acts of the only plundering of this war realized by a significant American troop, so of others took place, it was by small groups and on a quite less scale.

Consequences

The Bataille of Huamantla was the last battle of Santa Anna. The new government directed by Manuel Peña Peña inaugurated its new capacity there while requesting Santa Anna to give the command of the army to the General Jose Joaquin de Herrera. Three days after the battle, the Lane General spawning time a way until Puebla and raises the seat from there. The Lane General will continue to direct the operations counter insurgency until in 1848 in order to ensuring the routing of the provisioning of the troops of Veracruz Mexico City.
