Battle of Friedlingen
The battles of Friedlingen was held the October 14th 1702 close to Freiburg (current Germany). The French Army carried out by Claude Louis Hector de Villars, overcame that of the Saint Empire, carried out by Louis-Guillaume Ier de Bade.
Be a prelude to
In autumn of 1702, Louis XIV sends Claude Louis Hector de Villars to attack the Souabe, in order to reinforce the influence of the France on Eastern bank of the the Rhine. The imperial army tries to prevent the junction of the French and their Bavarois allies.
The battle
The October 14th 1702, the French cross the the Rhine to Weil-amndts-Rhein, the north of Basle, and attack the Impériale army in Friedlingen. The future field-Marshall Louis-Guillaume de Bade cut off well, contains the attack of the French before being withdrawn in North.
Consequences
The losses are high enough for the French who do not manage to make the junction with the Bavarois. The victory is at the very least contestable.The villages of Eastern bank of the the Rhine and particularly Weil-amndts-Rhein, suffered much.
