Battle of Chevalon
Unrolled in the year 965, the battles of the plate of Chevalon saw the victory of the Isarn bishop of Grenoble over a Buckwheat army.
Introduction
During the 10th century, Provence was not unfortunately the only one to undergo the attacks of Buckwheats. In 955, an important body of Sarrasins warriors unloaded in the south-east of France, took by storm the diocese of Grenoble and grounds being in the vicinity. Driven out of his diocese of Grenoble, the Isarn bishop exiled himself then in the neighborhoods of Grenoble. Decided well to take again possession of its old field, Isarn prepared its counter-offensive carefully. In order to achieve this goal, Isarn was henceforth to manufacture a powerful army. Having surely financial means limited to recruit, Isarn played of the trick and launched in the region of Grenoble a proposal for an engagement. In exchange of one enrôlement in its army, each recrus would receive part of the grounds which Buckwheats then had in the neighborhoods of the diocese of Grenoble and would thus leave obligatorily in the event of victory of Isarn. Even if the adventure appeared not very sure and perilous, much let themselves try. Thus in ten years, of noble, the warriors and the peasants of the region of Grenoble answered the call of Isarn massively and lined up under its wing.
Unfolding
Having succeeded in manufacturing its army, Isarn was going to be able to pass to the counter-attack. We were then in year 965. The French troops of Isarn and Buckwheats regulated the business in a hard battle which proceeded on the plate of Chevalon. In spite of baited an enough battle, the French gained the victory and Buckwheats were completely driven out of all the grounds which they occupied in the region of Grenoble. Whereas the Isarn bishop could take again possession of his diocese, its soldiers could as promised share the grounds which Buckwheats had one moment had in the neighborhoods of the diocese.
