Battle of Chesmé

The Bataille of Chesmé is a confrontation between the fleets of the Russia of Catherine II and of the Ottoman Empire at the time of the war which opposed them between 1768 and 1774. It was held at the time of the episode known as of the Révolution of Orloff in the channel between the island of Chios and the town of minor Asia of Chesmé.

The Othoman fleet had avoided the Russian fleet all spring 1770. The capouda-pasha hoped that the terrestrial counter-attack would starve the Russian troops which private of resources and vivres would be overcome without combat. After having wet with Nauplie, the fleet had taken refuge in Chios. Joined by the Russian fleet, it could not refuse the confrontation a long time any more.

The capoudan-pasha placed its fleet while growing along the shore and gained the dry land. It left the Flagship, the Capoudana in its second Hassan-Bey.
At the end of four hours of combat, the capoudana was approached by the Russian flagship. The combat was held with the body with body until the capoudana exploded, making run the two ships at the same time. The surviving Othoman ships took refuge in bay of Chesmé. They were run there by Brûlot S Greek originating in Psara. Only one Turkish vessel was not cast: it was taken by the Russians.
