Battle of Carthagène

The Battle of Carthagène, or the course of Spoils was a naval Bataille delivered the September 3rd 1643 to broad of Carthagène, in Spain, during the Guerre Thirty Year old.

Context

The French Marine kept in the the Mediterranean this superiority which had been only one moment and seemingly compromised in 1641: any battle delivered on sea was a gained battle. The Spanish fleet not daring more to show itself on the coast of Catalonia, the young admiral Jean Armand of With a grid-Brézé went to seek it and to meet it with broad of the course of Spoils.

Involved forces

The French had 20 men-of-war, 2 frigates and 12 Brûlot S. the Spaniards had in open sea 25 large vessels, including 20 Flemish and in the port of Carthagène 4 vessels and 14 galère S.

The battle

Brézé did not enable them to operate their junction before the combat: it attacked the September 3rd. The ship-admiral of Naples of 50 guns, was flaring. It was struck on this occasion a medal whose legend meant: Predicts empire of the sea
