Battle of Bazeilles

In 1870, for the first time of their history, Porpoises of the 1 {{er}}, 2 {{E}}, 3 {{E}}, 4 {{E}} regiments of marines and Bigor S of the 1 {{er}} regiment of marine artillery, is grouped to take share with the fight, in same called division " blue division " , ordered by the general De Vassoigne. They will write one of the most notable pages of the French Army with Bazeilles, the August 31st and September 1st 1870.

This heroic episode inspired the most famous patriotic table of Alphonse de Neuville, entitled the last cartridges .

Each year, the troops of marine celebrate the birthday of this great battle which cost the life of 2  655 as of theirs. The enemy lost some more of the double.

The rallying cry is “ In the name of god, lives colonial the ”.
