Battle of Almanza
At the time of the War of succession of Spain, Berwick with the head of a Franco-Spanish army gained with Almansa, the April 25th 1707 over the troops luso-britannico-Dutchwoman of the archduke Charles, ordered by Lord Galloway, count de Ruvigny and the Marquis of mow Minas, a great victory, which returned the throne to Philippe V.
The Battle of Almansa was decisive for the war, but did not mean the rendering of the Royaume of Valence. The army of the Bourbons had to conquer the cities and the villages which resisted. Játiva was the first besieged city. Játiva was finally occupied and the king ordered his destruction; it was then burnt; later one changed his name by that of San Felipe and one proceeded to his repopulation by people faithful to the army of the Bourbons. After were conquered Denia, Alcoy and finally Alicante.
Currently in the Valencian Community, the following sayings are always long-lived:
- Quan el badly ve of Almansa, has tots alcança (When the evil comes from Almansa, everyone is touched),
- Of ponent, neither wind neither race (Of ponent, neither wind nor people), pointing out this rout.
