Batroun

Batroun (rear RTL البترون) is a port city of the district of the same name, of which it is the administrative center, to the Lebanon.

Etymology:

Batroun or beit truna, an expression of origin canaanéenne which wants to say the place, the house of the chief.

The city received several names in the history:

- Botrys at times of the Greeks, Romans and Byzantines

- Bathroune at the time of the Arabs

- Boutron at the time of the crusaders.

Geography:

The city is located at 54 km in the north of Beirut at the edge of the Mediterranean.

History:

Quoted in the letters of Tal el Amarna, the city was founded on the initiative of the town of Tyr at the 3rd millenium before Jesus-Christ.

Various:

Batroun counts 7 schools (4 public and 3 private), a public library and 2 large hospitals (one public and the other private). The city became recently a destination, for the amateurs of pubs and nightclubs.
