The Polskie Linie Lotnicze BATCH (in English, BATCH Polish Airlines ) (Code AITA: LO ; Code ICAO: BATCH ) is the national Airline company of the Poland. Created at January 1st 1929, it is one of oldest in the world. The first planes used were Junkers F13 (15 specimens) and Fokker F.Vlla/1m (6 specimens).

History

  • in 1925, “Aerolloyd”, a private company which accomplishes since 1922 scheduled flights between Gdańsk, Warsaw and Lviv (in Polish: Lwów) is transformed into “Aerolot” and its basic airport is transferred from Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz on Warsaw-Mokotów. The company The Aero is founded with Poznań and begins its operations on the Poznań-Łódź-Warsaw road.
  • in 1928, the division of the civil aviation of the ministry for transport decides to dissolve all the private airline companies: the December 28th 1928, a national public company replaces these companies: the Linie Lotnicze BATCH Sp. Z o.o. .
  • in 1929, the January 1st, begin the flights from BATCH. The name of the company is supplemented by the adjective Polish : “Polskie Linie Lotnicze BATCH Sp. Z o.o. ”
  • In 1930 BATCH is allowed with AITA, and receives code LO. The first international flights (with Bucharest) begin on April 1st 1930.
  • having ceased its operations lasting the Second world war, the company takes again its activities in 1945 after having received 10 planes Lisunov Li-2 and 9 Douglas DC-3. The domestic flights were taken again on April 1st, and the international flights the May 11th 1945.
  • the Soviet domination after the Second world war makes that BATCH widens its fleet with machines coming from this country. Thus, the company receives successively It-18 (allowing flights in Africa and with the Proche the East), Year-24, You-134 and finally of the It-62 (allowing the installation of the transatlantic flights towards Montreal and New York.
  • In April 1989 BATCH started to replace its old fleet of Soviet planes by the purchase of Boeings 767-200ER. Then, in August 1991 ATR 72 -200, Boeing 737-500 in December 1992 and 737-400 in April 1993.
  • in 1992, it becomes a Public limit company.
  • in 1996, it creates EuroLOT to exploit its overdrawn internal lines.
  • in 2004, it creates Centralwings, a company at low prices.

Currently the company engages 4200 people and proposes 49 destinations in 31 countries. The principal hub is located at the airport of Warsaw. The October 26th 2003 BATCH adhered to the alliance Star Alliance becoming its 15th member.
