The Bata Shoe Museum , with Toronto in Canada, is a museum dedicated to the history of the Chaussure. It was creates in 1995 by the Bata family via the Bata Shoe Museum Foundation . The majority of the collection are a donation of the private collection of Sonja Bata, president of the foundation and woman of Thomas J. Bata, president of the Chaussures Bata and wire of its founder Thomas Bata.

Building

Conceived by Raymond Moriyama and finished in 1991, it is located at the angle of the streets Bloor and St George. Its form is derived from the idea of a museum container. Taking again this concept and associating it more with the world of the shoe, Moriama declared that the building was to evoke one limps of opened shoe, realized in a kind of form deconstructivist with his oblique walls and its plated copper roof which have excentré the walls of the building offering a plan and an interesting volume.

The building consists off three stories above ground, and two below ground levels, throughout which are dispersed galleries, has resource lab, restoration facilities, has gift shop, offices, and storage. However, cast bronzes and leather, traditional materials used in the creation off shoes, are used in signage throughout the museum.

Publicity
