Bass player

In popular Music, one or a bass player is a Musicien instrumentalist playing of the low Guitare. In Classical music, a bass player is generally a playing musician of the Contrebasse.

Traditional role of the bass player in a group

The bass player constitutes the harmonic spinal column of the pieces played by the group. In duet with the beater, they ensure rhythmic cohesion. It is also what one calls the “groove low battery”.

Technique of low guitar

The bass player can play of low with his fingers or by using a Médiator. The low is also used as a percussif instrument if the battery is absent.

  • Play with the fingers: The technique of fingers consists in tending then to slacken the cord using the fingers, generally the index and the major one. Certain bass players play nevertheless 3 or 4 fingers.

  • Play in Médiator: The technique with the médiator is very similar to that of the Guitare. It makes it possible to give a sound stronger than the technique of the fingers, but removes much versatility to the bass player. This technique is especially used in the music Punk and in the guitarists turning to the low one.

  • Slap : This technique consists in striking the serious cords with the inch, and drawing the acute cords with the index or the major one. These techniques are used mainly in the Funk, the Rock, the Jazz rock'n'roll, the fusion and the musics experimental.

  • Flamenco slap: Technique which consists in striking the cords with the annular one, the major one and the index, on the basis of the closed fist.

  • Play with the inch: Technique which consists has to play all the cords with the pulp of the inch (even with the index) in order to obtain a its deaf person while varying the effect with the palm of the hand

  • the pop one: Technique which consists has to draw on a cord then to release it; that gives a its close relation of the slap and is especially used for the acute cords

  • Others: Another technique exists and uses more the low one like a percussif instrument. The play consists of rhythmic figures carried out by opera hats alternate of the two hands on the cords.

  • Hammer : To play a note with only the left hand by putting a finger. Ex: one makes vibrate the cord puts 5 then one adds a finger puts 7; that notes “5 H 7” on a fingering chart.

  • Pulling-off : It is also to play a note with only the left hand, except that one removes a finger. Ex: one makes vibrate the note puts 7 then one removes his finger to make sound box 5: that notes " 7 PO 5"

  • Trill : Continuation of Hammer/Sweater-off. Ex: “7 PO 5 H 6” or even “5 H 7 PO 6 H 8”
