Basilicate

The Area of Basilicate (in Italian: Regione Basilicata , in the past Lucanie ), known as more usually Basilicate , is a Région of southernmost Italy of 600.000 inhabitants whose chief town is Potenza. It is wedged, in spite of two short maritime frontages, between the Campanie, the Pouilles and the Calabria.

Belonging to the Large Greece and populated by coastal Greek colonies (whose famous Σύβαρις Sybaris), it forms part with the close Calabria, of the Roman area of the Bruttium, that which was undoubtedly going to give its name to the whole Italy. The Romains end up distinguishing the Lucanie from the Calabria , the name coming from the Lucanii .

Basilicate is divided into 2 provinces:

Policy

At the time of the last regional elections of the 17 and April 18th 2005, it is the list D supported by the Union which easily gained the absolute majority at the District council, according to the following detail (names of the candidates to the presidency of the area):

  • Unione (list D ), Vito De Filippo of the Margherita, 236.814 v., 67,0%,3 seats (on the regional lists);
  • Per Basilicata (list has ) (supported by the Maison of freedoms, but without carrying the initials of it), Cosimo Latronico, 101.843 v., 28,8%,1 regional seat;
  • New Italian Socialist party, Margherita Torrio, 2,5%;
  • Altenativa social idiot Alessandra Mussolini , Roberto Fiore, 1,0%;
  • Unità popolare (a Marxist movement), Angela Rosa Mancuso, 0,7%.

The votes obtained in the electoral constituencies to supplement the district council of 30 members are the following:

  • Uniti nell' Ulivo (Olivier), 38,9%,10 seats (with the list D);
  • Forza Italia, 12,7%,4 seats (with the list A);
  • Popolari-UDEUR, 11,1%,3 seats (with the list D);
  • Union of the Christian democrats, 7,9%,3 seats (with the list A);
  • National alliance, 6,5%,2 seats (with the list A);
  • I Made green, 5,6%,1 seat (with the list D);
  • communist Recasting, 4,7%,1 seat (with the list D);
  • Left the Italian Communists, 4,1%; 1 seat (with the list D);
  • Italia dei Valori, 2,7%,1 seat (with the list D);
  • New Italian Socialist party, 2,2%, no seat (nonrelated);
  • Patto, 1,7%, no seat (with the list D);
  • Federazione di Centro (of which the Italian Republican party), 0,9% (with the list A);
  • Alternativa social idiot A. Mussolini , 0,7% (n.a.);
  • Unità popolare , 0,3% (n.a.).

The new council, chaired by Vito De Filippo (old Italian Popular party), is thus composed of 30 advisers on the whole, where it has a majority of 20 advisers.

Culture

Gastronomy

Basilicate has a good number of dishes and typical products. The sausages for example are prepared there since antiquity. In the area of Matera one cooks the " gnommarielli " or tripe of sheep. To consume meat of goat or sheep N 'is not rare there.

One of the only typical cakes lucaniens which one knows is the lagana chiapputa: a dish of lasagnes prepared with cooked nut must, dryed grapes, crumb of bread, been useful hot or cold.

Also, there exist the " pettole" , of fritters of honey pastes rolled up and cooked wine.

The cheeses also should be evoked. It y' enormously has goat's milk cheeses and ewe manufactured in the area.

One of most known is the pécorino of Moliterno manufactured in the high valley of the Agri.

Wines and alcohols

The red wines produced in basilicate are it most of the time starting from the type of vine " aglianico" cultivated between 200 and 700 mêtres of altitude. It is produced in Rionero in Vulture, Barile, Rapolla, Ripacandida, Ginestra, Maschito, Forenza, Acerenza, Melfi Atella, Venosa, Lavello, Palazzo san gervasio Banzi, Genzano di Lucania… Is drunk with tender poultries, meats, game birds etc…

There exist several kinds of aglianico: Agliano of Vulture reserve, 5 years of age.

The list of the local products would be incompléte if one did not speak about the famous " Amaro Lucano" The amaro lucano is manufactured since 1894 starting from a receipt held today still secret. It would have been created in Pisticci by Pasquale Vena which well quickly provides the house of Savoy in Amaro lucano. As its name indicates it, it is a drink extremely amére. It is manufactured starting from nine aromatic and medicinal herbs. She is only drunk or with lemon. She can also accompany the ices.
