Basilica of Paray-le-Monial
Its Romance basilica, now placed under the term of the Sacred Heart, gives a complete image, although of reduced size, of what was Cluny: three naves against five with Cluny, simple transept and not doubles, but, of the before-nave to the cascade of the roofs of the bedside, staged in a subtle harmony, while passing by the ordered vaults in the same way as to large abbey.
Description
Inside, one finds rise on three floors and the play of the light entering by the high windows, particularly subtle in the chorus, which made the fame of Cluny as of the Moyen-âge. The solemnity of the basilica answers the peace of the adjacent cloister, rebuilt at the 18th century but in perfect harmony with the church. Its southernmost wing shelters the museum of the Earthenware where parts of Charolles are exposed, but also of old earthenware of Moustiers and Nevers while, in the opposed gallery, on the side of north one discovers the gate, richly decorated with Romance sculptures of unequal invoice, by which the monks gained the church. But it is especially the northern gate, on the side of the city, which is a pretty example of Romance ornamentation, even in the absence of figurative tympanum.
With the bedside of the Basilica, is Midsummer's Day space, place of reception and information intended mainly for the pilgrims. Inside, Holy-Marguerite-Marie space and holy Claude Colombière, presents the history of the life and the appearances of holy Marguerite - Marie Alacoque and the message of Paray. In the park of the Chaplains, in the east of the Basilica, the Diorama proposes an assembly its and light on holy Marguerite-Marie. Not far from there, the vault of the Appearances is located where hunting is containing the relics of the holy one.
