Basilica

A Basilique is a covered building, civil meeting room opened with the public. As from the 4th century, the Romans built basilicas special lies reserved for the Christian worship. It is this last form which perduré until our days. This type of building is built, in front II°-s J.C among Romans, to compensate the forum in the event of bad weather.

1) Origin

The word basilica is formed starting from two Greek elements: ^ “basileus” which means “king” ^ the suffix “- ikê” , suffix of feminine adjective.

The complete expression is βασιλικά οἰκία basilika oikia which means “royal room”.

The basilica is a building of Greek inspiration which appears at second century BC Initially used to designate a meeting room, it is especially known like a particular type of church, either from the architectural point of view, or in a canonical direction (religious).
