Bashir Gemayel
Bachir Gemayel (Arab: RTL rear بشيرالجميل), a Lebanese political personality of the family Gemayel, born the November 10th 1947 and dead assassinated the September 14th 1982. Bachir Gemayel is born in an important family Maronite. It founded the militia of the Lebanese Forces in 1976, almost gathering all the Christian militia of Beirut-Is and the Lebanon mount at the time of the massacres of the Christian populations in villages of south-Lebanon (Damour, Jieh…). It takes the head of the Christian militia then and is essential by the force as chief of the Christian camp in the war which makes rage vis-a-vis the Palestinian militia of Yasser Arafat. He faces his Christian rivals like Tony Frangié and Dany Chamoun which directed the militia of the Tigers. One also allots carnages of “black Saturday to him” during which hundreds of Moslem civilians were cut the throat of by the militia phalangist. Recognized like interlocutor by the the United States, it opens the dialog with the Arab countries and becomes an political alliance and soldier with Ariel Sharon and Rafael Eitan to drive out the Palestinian S of Lebanon. Following the Israeli military intervention, he is elected president of the Lebanese Republic. Wanting to separate the Lebanese problem from the israélo-Palestinian conflict, Bashir Gemayel ends up disturbing the policy implemented by all the regional powers and international, which thought of finding a solution with the israélo-Palestinian conflict through Lebanon. He will be assassinated three weeks later, the September 14th 1982. A punitive massacre, perpetrated by its partisans followed in the camps of Sabra and Chatila in the night from September 17th to 18th. This one was perpetrated with the agreement, or at least without any opposition, of the Israeli army, however in load of the safety of the camps. His/her brother Amine succeeded to him then the presidency. Habib Tanious Chartouni, militant pro-Syrian, confessed the assassination of Bachir and were apprehended and introduced to the new president, Amine Gemayel. He escaped and was again captured a few hours later. He was then considered by Lebanese justice and was imprisoned with the prison of Roumieh. He was illegally slackening of the prison by the Syrian army in 1990.
