Baseball with the Olympic Games of summer of 2008

The tournament of Baseball of the Olympic Games of summer of 2008 will dispute 13 with the August 23rd 2008 with Beijing. The meetings will take place with the Wukesong Baseball Field , in the arts center and sporting of Wukesong.

Exclusively male, baseball will not be any more with the plays of 2012.

Qualifications

Tournament of qualification of Americas

Without much surprise, the tournament of qualification of Americas saw qualifying the two teams which gain usually the world cups: the United States and Cuba.

The tournament, which was played Havana, proceeded in two phases: the twelve teams were divided into two groups of six and faced each team of their group of the 25 to the August 30th.

The four best teams of each group were qualified for the second turn, where they preserved the results achieved vis-a-vis the teams still in string.

They faced 1 {{er}} with the September 5th the four teams of the other group.

Cuba lost vis-a-vis the United States 5-8 in the last match, whereas the United States had lost vis-a-vis Venezuela with the first turn 9-12. These teams gained all their other matches, and finished with the first and second places of the tournament, qualificative for the Olympic Games of Beijing.

In addition to the two teams qualified directly for the OJ, Mexico and Canada will take part in the Olympic tournament of qualification which will indicate three qualified among eight teams. Mexico, Canada, Venezuela and Panama qualified itself for the thirty-seventh world cup of baseball with Taipei in 2007.

Championship of Europe of baseball

The Championnat of Europe of baseball took place from September 7th to 16th 2007. The Netherlands, champion of Europe are qualified directly. The the United Kingdom and the Spain will take part in the Olympic tournament of qualification.

Championship of Asia of baseball

The championship of Asia of baseball will take place from November 27th to December 3rd, 2007. The champion of Asia is qualified directly. The second and the third will take part in the Olympic tournament of qualification.

Olympic tournament of qualification

The Olympic tournament of qualification will have in March place or in April 2008. The two European teams (the United Kingdom and Spain) and the two Asian teams will dispute the three last qualificative places with Mexico, Canada, South Africa and Australia.

Format of the tournament

The eight participating teams play each one against the seven others at the time of the preliminary round. The four best teams qualify themselves for the semi-finals (1st against 4th and 2nd against 3rd).
Les victorious of the semi-finals plays for the gold medals and of money finally, whereas the losers dispute the medal of bronze.
Le tournament is opened to the professional players as with the players amateurs. The teams are limited to 24 joueurs.
L' use of aluminum beaters is authorized. If a team has more than ten points in advance during or after the 7th handle, the meeting is finished ( mercy rule ).
