Base the Antarctic McMurdo

McMurdo Station is an American base the Antarctic located in the south of the island of Ross (77° 51 ' South and 166° 40 ' Is). It is used as logistic port for half of the continent. The station is located on the Dépendance of Ross, territory asserted by the New Zealand, having the Base Scott to 5 km.

The base is built in 1956, whereas it was called Naval Air Facility McMurdo , site discovered by the English explorer Robert Falcon Scott. It comprises a port, three airports, a heliport and more than one hundred buildings. The station counts in the surrounding of 1.000 people in summer, but not more than 200 in winter. The majority of the population work in the field of sciences. The site has the Center Albert P. Crary (CSEC), the Observatoire Hill and a dependence of the the National Science Foundation
