Base the Antarctic King Baudouin

The Base the Antarctic King Baudouin was a scientific base Belgian built in 1958 and given up in 1968.

History

Forwarding for the construction of this first Belgian base in the Antarctic at the time of the International Geophysical Year, was initiated by the Belgian Explorateur Gaston de Gerlache. With the Belgian royal bread-winner, it obtained on behalf of the government a budget of 54 Belgian franc million.

She started of the port of Antwerp on November 12th, 1957 with two Norwegian boats. December 26th, 1957, forwarding unloads in Ground of the Queen-Maud. It will not be necessary that eight weeks to build the base as of the arrival at the place envisaged compared to the 7 months of average for the scientific bases of the other countries.
