The Base Dumont d' Urville is a scientific base French located on the island of the Petrels, in Ad3elie coast, in the archipelago of Pointe Geology (). It owes its name with the explorer Jules Dumont d' Urville.

The base is managed by the polar Institut Paul-Emile Victor. It is open the January 12th 1956 to replace the base Port Martin, destroyed by fire in 1952. The station can accommodate from 30 to 40 people.

The ice and the strong winds preventing the planes from landing, one reaches it by Zodiac or helicopter. The personnel on the basis is of 30 in winter and between 70 and 120 in summer. The ship of supply the Astrolabe brings provisions and personnel 5 times per annum between November and March.

In the years 1990 an aerodrome was built on the island of the Lion, small island close to the island of Petrels. However DGAC will refuse of it the homologation in 1994 because of the quality of the aggregates used in the construction industry.
