Bartolomeo Ammannati
Bartolomeo Ammannati or Ammanati (Settignano, June 18th, 1511 - April 13rd, 1592), is an architect and a sculptor of the school florentine.
It was more distinguished in architecture in the sculpture. It designed buildings with Rome, Padoue and Florence.
He very strongly imitated the style of Michel-Angel of which he was one of the disciples.
Biography
Bartolomeo studies initially near Baccio Bandinelli then, left in Venice, it collaborates with Jacopo Sansovino for the library Saint Marc (the Biblioteca Marciana).In 1544, it carries out a colossal statue of Hercules 9 height m for the humanistic lawyer of Padoue, Marco Mantova Benavides.
In 1546, also in Padoue, a gate with Apollo and Jupiter and the mausoleum of B. Benavides to the Eremitani.
In 1550, it leaves to Rome to carry out the tomb of Antonio and of Fabiano del Monte to San Pietro in Montorio .
The same year, Ammannati marries Laura Battiferri, an elegant poetess.
With Giorgio Vasari and for the pope Jules III of Goes up, it works with the Nymphée of the Villa Giulia of Rome, by building fountains and caves on three levels which constitute the element " surprise" court, a matter mannerist par excellence.
Returned in Florence in 1555, it carries out a large fountain for the living room of the Five hundreds of the Palazzo Vecchio and supplements in 1559, on projects of Michel-Angel, the realization of the monumental staircase of the hall of the Bibliothèque laurentienne.
From 1557 to 1563, it carries out the Grifoni palate giving on the Piazza della Santissima Annunziata.
From 1558 to 1570, he works then with the transformation of Palais Pitti into suburban villa for the Médicis large-dukes and the frontage in the initial style lengthens some.
One of its mainly famous works is the Fontaine of Neptune (1563-1565) which is on the Piazza della Signoria in Florence where its monumental statue of marble Neptune (that Florentins call the Biancone by its white mass as a whole) is accompanied by the naïades and the satyrs of Jean of Bologna and of Pietro Tacca. The burial of Ammannati and his wife is in the vault San Bartolomeo of the Chiesa di San Giovannino degli Scolopi of Florence.
