Barthelemy of the Martyrs , Portuguese bishop, born in 1514 with Lisbon
He was baptized in the church of Notre-Dame of the Martyrs, from where its name comes to him, and entered to the Dominicain S. He was tutor of Don Antonio, nephew of the king Jean III, was named in 1559 Archevêque of Braga, dislocated himself of sound évêché to be locked up in a convent, and died in 1590 in Odeur of holiness.
He left writings among which one note:
- a Compendium spritualis doctrinae translates into 1699 by Antoine Godeau under the title of Maximes of the spiritual life
- the Stimulus pastorum or Devoirs and Vertus of the bishops translates into French by Guillaume of Mello, 1672.
Lemaistre de Sacy wrote its Vie .
