Bart Preneel

Bart Preneel , Belgian Cryptologue and professor with the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven where he is director of the group COSIC ( Computer Security and Industrial Cryptography ).

Preneel is one of the authors of the Fonction of chopping RIPEMD-160. With Shoji Miyaguchi, it is at the origin of the Construction of Miyaguchi-Preneel which is used in Whirlpool. Its research is mainly centered on chopping and the authentification with more than 140 publications.

Preneel occupies the post of vice-president of IACR ( International Association for Cryptologic Research ) and was one of the organizers of the contest NESSIE. In 2003, it receives the European price of the computer security for its contribution at the time of NESSIE.
