Barraux is a common French, located in the department of the Isere and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Barraux is a village in top of the valley of the Grésivaudan, with the top of Pontcharra It is located at 3 km of Pontcharra (Trade, Collège, Lycée) Barraux is located at 22 km of Chambéry (100.000 hbt.) and at 35 km of Grenoble (650.000 hbt.)

The quoted Districts all are urbanized (Where there are buildings). The Commune is divided into 3 villages (Hamlets) One called quite simply Barraux which gathers the following districts: The Center Town, the Square, Rua, Beauregard, the Hoop, the Cross and all lately attached to these districts by new allotments: Cullier (In the past a Hamlet), the Other called Fayet (Which gathers the districts of Fayet, of Beauregard " Forêt" , Top of the Hoop.)

The last named the Trowel gathers the districts of the Trowel Centers, the Top of the Trowel, Reneviers. This hamlet of Barraux was in the past a commune.

The Districts Center Town and Square were formerly a center of Manufacture of Gloves from where the street name of the Glove factory located at the Square which sheltered formerly the largest factory of Gloves of the Commune. A store with a small factory was located at the Beginning of the street of the Fort in the Center Town.

History of Strong Barraux

  • Taken by Lesdiguières in 1598 with the duke of Savoy Charles-Emmanuel Ier, which had just made it build (1597).

Vauban transforms it into 1692 on order of Louis XIV to consolidate the defense of the Alps.
  • Camp of German captive officers between 1914 and 1918.

  • Camp of internment for the Jews, resistant and traffickers of the black-market of 1941 to 1948.

  • Ammunition dump of alpine Division until in 1988.
