Barran
Barran is a common French, located in the department of the Gers and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.
Its inhabitants is called Barranais.

Barran is a country house (strengthened village in squared plan) founded at the end of the 13th century (1279). It sheltered with the Moyen-âge a small community Juive. The archbishop S of Auch installed there their residence of summer to the Château of Mazères, which was used as military Hôpital during the First World War.
The village, of which the economy had always rested on the Agriculture, sudden of full whip of Rural migration at the 20th century. But the fall of the population, which was still accentuated after the Second world war, seems today stopped thanks to the installation of new inhabitants in the commune, which profits today from its proximity with the chief town Auch (15 km). - Collegial Saint Jean-Baptiste dating from the 12th century, was rebuilt towards 1569, then it undergoes important modifications at the 19th century. It has a twisted Clocher which is composed of a square tower whose last stage, overflowing is covered with slates, it is surmounted by a pyramid at square base then of octagonal arrow of 50m, such a covered with slates of which the lower part turns from left to right, of 1/8e of turn. In 1971, the bell-tower whose torsion had been accentuated with time, going to the break, was repaired by the Compagnons of Saint-Sylvain of Anjou , which think that the arrow was twisted right from the start.
