The barracuda is a carnivorous Poisson of big size (until 2m). There are approximately 25 known species. The body of the barracuda is lengthened, with a jaw lower of big size and teeth in the shape of hook. The two dorsal ailerons are largely separate, the first having five spines and it second a soft spine and nine rays.

The barracudas are in theory edible. However, the flesh of the barracuda can from time to time contain a toxin (the Ciguatera).

The barracudas live either isolated or in benches. One generally finds them around the Récif S, but they also appear in the open seas. They are the predatory voracious ones which counts, for hunting, on the effect of surprised followed by a short acceleration. The incidents with men are extremely rare although the barracudas follow sometimes plungers of diving-suit through the reef.
