Barrémien

The Barrémien or Barrêmien is the stratigraphic fourth stage Crétacé inferior. It extends from -130  ±  1,5 with -125  ±  1  My.

It succeeds the Hauterivien and precedes the Aptien.

Origin of name

Barrêmien draws its name from the common Frenchwoman of Barrême, in the Alp-of-High-Provence.

Definition

The base of Barrêmien is determined by the first appearance of the Ammonite S Spitidiscus hugii and Spitidiscus vandeckii . The top is determined by the beginning of the Chronozone magnetic M0r.
