Barquisimeto

Barquisimeto is the capital of the State of Lara to the Venezuela. It is located at the mid-west of Venezuela, halfway between Caracas and Maracaibo. It is located at a distance of 351 km of Caracas, and at 564 m of altitude.

History

The city was founded in 1552 by the Conquistador Don Juan de Villegas. Named initially Nueva Segovia , it occupied successively various sites, to be finally established on its current site in 1563. In 1812, it was mainly destroyed by an earthquake, and could preserve only one weak part of sound colonial Architecture of origin. Today, it is a modern Ville, the fourth plus big city of the Venezuela, and it occupies an important place because of its geographical location on the axis of communication mid-west, its industries and its agriculture.
