Barousse
The Barousse is a small area of the south-west of the France, including/understanding the valley of the Ourse, a left affluent of the the Garonne, in the department of the Hautes-Pyrénées, and the small valley of Siradan.
The principal cities are Loures-Barousse and Mauléon-Barousse.
Geography
Barousse corresponds mainly to the basin of the Ourse, in north east of the Moun Né (2147 m), between the valley of the Spade, with the south, and that of the Nistos, in north. It leads to the valley of the the Garonne to height of Barbazan. The small valley of Siradan, which directly joined the Garonne since the plate of Cazarilh , is also baroussaise, no significant obstacle separating it from the principal valley. The valley is not a transportation route even if the Port of Hefty man (1755 m) makes it possible to join the Vallée of Oueil in the Luchonnais, in the south.
There are 50 with 60 000 years, the valley was invaded by the Glacier of the Garonne as testify some to imposing drifts. One owes them a throttling with semi-vallée : the bolt of Troubat .
The high valley is covered with forests whereas the central part lends herself well to the meadows. The landscape Karstique gives us to appreciate the pit of Drunk in which the Ourse de Ferrère plunges in cascades.
Old careers exploited the Calcaire (dolomitic) in Thèbe. In the west of the Mount Sacon, one exploits the ore of Magnésium to feed the iron-foundry of Marignac.
The spring water of Saint-Nérée , upstream of Ferrère, is the subject also of an commercial exploitation.
History
The Grottes of Troubat testify to an old settlement. Excavations revealed Silex, Harpon S, a Propulseur, Sagaie S out of wood of Cervidé S, going back to 15 000 with 8 000 years before our era. One discovered there many remainders of Escargot S, which were used like holds food by Pyrenean time.
With the the Middle Ages, Barousse is detached from the Comminges to join the Comté of Aure and to form the country of the Four-Valleys.
Etymology
Its name, of a Gascon pre-Latin *Barroça , is based on the root Basque Ibar which mean “valley” and of closed alternative of the toponymic Suffixe - oç. (Some proposed to see there the name Ourse river).
Is the linguistic bottom Basque quite perceptible through Toponyme S like the Ourse, Loures-Barousse, Izaourt, Sarp, Ourde, Esbareich, Sost… Then the Romans left domain names like Antichan, Samuran… Enfin, one hears the Gascon language in the names of Créchets ( small chasm ), Bramevaque ( meugle cow ), Troubat ( found ?) or Cazarilh ( small hamlet )… The name of Ilheu points out that of the valley of Ilhéou.
