The Barons de Cleveland were a frankness from the American Ligue of hockey of Hockey in North America. The team played her matches with Cleveland in the State of the Ohio with in the skating rink of the Cleveland Arena .
History
Several teams of Cleveland bore the name of Barons but that which was the most success is the team which evolved/moved in the American Ligue of hockey between 1937 and 1973. Between these two seasons, the frankness gained ten titles of divisions and nine Coupes Calder, the ultimate reward of the LAH.The beginnings of the frankness goes back from the season 1929 - 30 from the international Ligue from hockey with the Indians to Cleveland . Indians play during five seasons in the LIH before changing name and becoming the Falcons of Cleveland . It is still necessary to wait three seasons before seeing the team taking officially the name of Barons de Cleveland for the beginning of the season 1937 - 38. The team takes share with the championship of the American Ligue of hockey which names then International American Hockey Leagues , name which it keeps until in 1940.
As of the first season of the LAH, the team directed since the beginning by Bill Cook the final of the eliminatory Séries gains and the Coupe Calder. Until the end of the season 1942 - 43, Bill Cook remains behind the bench of the Barons then it is replaced by his/her brother Bun who gains with five recoveries the Calder Cut: in 1945, 1948, 1951 and the doublet in 1953 and 1954.
Following the final lost in 1956, Jack Gordon replaces Cook as a trainer and gains as of his first season the Calder Cut but after five defeats with the first turn of the series, it is dislocated of these functions and is replaced by Fred Glover which will remain still six seasons in place and gains the ninth and last Calder Cut of the history of the frankness. At the time of the four last seasons of the frankness, various trainers follow one another behind the bench and the team does not find any more success.
During several years, the team is the property of Al Sutphin, owner of the company Braden-Sutphin Ink Company based in Cleveland. Sutphin, reality in love with the Sport in general, is then known for its practice to pay wages higher than those practiced in the National league of hockey. Thus, certain professional hockey players prefer to remain to play in minor leagues rather than to play in the LNH. It also benefits from its fortune to build the skating rink Cleveland Arena , one of the more big rooms of North America at the time. To the beginning of the year 1950, the LNH grants to the town of Cleveland a place in its championship but of the financial problems prevent finally the frankness from being created and between the years 1940 and 1950, the Barons play a majority of their match in front of full houses.
In 1972, the Worldwide association of hockey created and the frankness from the Crusaders of Cleveland comes to steal the high-speed motorboat to the famous team which must then file for bankruptcy. Indeed, the team of the AMH engages a good number of former players of the National league of hockey and the owner of the Barons, Nick Mileti, being also that of Crusaders, it decides to move the old frankness with Jacksonville in Florida in February 1973 to create the Barons de Jacksonville.
