Is barred of my stronghold! is the original title of the prototype of a Board game created in February 2004 which will give, after some improvements, the Combat of the strongholds and finally Baron , at the time of its publication in the trade, in May 2006.
It is about the first published play of Franz Gaudois, professor in vocational school with the Mans and author of plays during his leisures.
Pretext
In this disturbed period of XIe century, the weakening of the royal authority supports the arguments between lords (players) who engage a thankless struggle to be highest placed on the Staircase of nobility. For that, they pick of the hexagonal tiles and increase the landscape gradually to place their knights there and to build their keeps there.
The resources which surround the keeps get power more or less. This power makes it possible to climb the stairs of nobility (replaced in commercial release by the stages of a castle), but also to fight battle against rival knights too located close… "
The construction of the landscape and the establishment of the keeps are not the fruit of the chance. The play, different with each part, is based on simple but original rules. Baron offers many tactical choices and interesting bounces, with strong and justifying interactivity between the players.
History of the play
The play was a real success at the time of the many festivals in which its author presented it, before being published in its current commercial form. Before being published, this play was sent free to more than 500 specimens to the Net surfers who made the request of it. It was made known and to appreciate under the name of the Combat of the strongholds .
Present on several ludic festivals, it was rewarded by the Trophée Creators for the FLIP 2004, money Frog of Panazol and was finalist of the contest of creators to the International festival of the plays of Cannes in 2005.
Commercial edition
Baron is published in May 2006 by Tilsit in four languages (French, English, German and Italian.)
It is the sixth play of Tilsit Collection (Maka Bana, the Himalayas,…) It supplements this range by proposing ludic pleasures different from its predecessors. With Baron, appears a set of tactical placements, made anticipation, confrontations, of transitory bluff and alliances. The reversals of situation are numerous and the victory remains dubious until the end.
The author
Franz Gaudois (June 13rd, 1965, Toulouse) created several board games which it presents on its Internet site. Baron is currently his only play published.
