Barney Wilen

Bernard Jean Wilen, known as " Barney" (March 4th 1937 - May 25th 1996) Saxophonist of Jazz born in Nice, of an American father and a French mother. He played mainly of the Saxophone tenor.

Biography

Barney Wilen started to occur in clubs in Nice on the encouragements of Blaise Cendrars, which was a friend of its mother.

Its career intensified in 1957 when he worked with Miles Davis on the original soundtrack of the film Ascenseur for the scaffold .

Two years later, it recorded with the quintet of Thelonious Monk, then was chosen by Art Blakey to interpret the music of the film the dangerous Connections of Roger Vadim.

It composed several musics for French films in the years 1980 and 1990.

During the years 1960 it was interested in the rock'n'roll and recorded a disc dedicated to Timothy Leary. He also worked with rockeurs Punk before returning to the jazz in the years 1990.

In 2006, a documentary film is devoted to him: " Barney Wilen, the rest off your life" of Stephan Sinde.
