Barneville-Carteret

Barneville-Carteret (to pronounce //) is a common French, located in the department of the Manche and the area Basse-Normandie.

It results from fusion into 1965 of the old communes of Barneville-on-Sea (to pronounce //) and Carteret (to pronounce //), whose port offers sea links towards the Channel Islands.

Its inhabitants is the Barnevillais (be) and the Carteretais (be) .

History

Carteret

The ruins of the Saint-Germain church close to the course of Carteret tend to prove that Carteret was founded at this place. Later, because of the progression of the dunes inside the grounds.

Barneville-on-sea

Heraldic

Before the unification, the commune of Barneville changed of mouths to three fermaux of gold , which are the weapons of the family Malet de Graville.

The commune of Carteret carried Coupé, with 1st of mouths, four rockets of money posed in fasce; with 2nd of mouths, three fermaux of gold .
